Donna Vitruviana | Reinterpreting the Vitruvian Ideal Through the Female Body

When I created Donna Vitruviana, my goal was to explore what happens when the timeless proportions of da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man are reimagined through a female perspective. The original drawing presented the male body as the universal standard.

This led me to ask: Why must the Vitruvian human, the so-called perfection, be a man? What would it look like if the harmonious rules of the universe were expressed through a feminine form. And how could motion reveal a new perspective on balance and beauty?

The project began as a vector illustration, but over time I wanted to breathe life into it. Motion allowed me to go beyond static image – giving the figure breath, rhythm, and vitality. The animation became a way of symbolizing that harmony is not rigid, but living and dynamic.

Donna Vitruviana is both a tribute and a challenge: a tribute to the beauty of classical proportions that once placed man at the center of the universe, and a challenge to reframe those ideals in a way that is inclusive, modern, and feminine. By blending digital illustration techniques with motion design, I set out to create an artwork that speaks to both tradition and innovation.
